When someone walks into your house, what do you want your house to tell that person about you? For me, I want my house to tell a story - the story of Dustin and me. Our house is a narrative of our roots, our families and friends, and our life together. We used select pieces to show off the places that are important to us, the people who have shaped us, and the memories we share. Any design element with words was chosen carefully, as we wanted our house to be a reflection of who we are and what we believe.
I'm somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to design. I don't have many things on each wall or each tabletop. So I made sure the pieces that do appear in our house truly mean something. When I look back at our living space in the morning before heading to work (to be sure I've turned all of the lights off), I see my life. I love that our house tells our story.
This is one of my favorite pieces in the house. We used this collage frame from Kirklands to tell the story of our house - from the day we signed the papers on the lot to the day we closed.
